Established in August 2002, the Welfare Association for the Development of Afghanistan (WADAN) is an indigenous NGO that envisions a peaceful, educated, drug free, democratic, developed and prosperous Afghanistan. Our mission is to advance the spread of democratic principles, development, social justice, human rights, and freedom; and to strengthen communities and local governance by promoting effective community and institutional development practices and drug control initiatives. Registered with the Government of Afghanistan and a member of the Afghan NGOs Coordination Bureau (ANCB), and the Agency Coordinating Body for Afghan Relief (ACBAR), in cooperation and coordination with line ministries, CSO’s and other stakeholders we undertake community and institutional development, civic education, and education and drug control initiatives. Based in Kabul, with more than 2,000 full time staff members, we have offices in Badakhshan, Farah, Ghazni, Helmand, Herat, Kandahar, Khost, Kunduz, Logar, Maidan-Wardak, Nangarhar, Paktia, Uruzgan and Zabul Provinces which also cover adjacent districts and provinces. The Drug Demand Reduction is one of WADAN’s largest efforts. The program is provisioning awareness and treatment services on drugs and Substance Use Disorders to patients, their families, and respective communities. WADAN has been actively involved in implementing several drug treatment and awareness projects in different parts of Afghanistan since 2002. WADAN is seeking an efficient, qualified and process and result-Psychologist, to be responsible for the tasks of the position on project base.

We undertake community and institutional development, civic education, education and drug control initiatives in cooperation with government ministries, the beneficiaries, Community Development Organizations (CDO’s) and other stakeholders. In collaboration with MISFA, WADAN currently implements Targeting the Ultra-Poor (TUP) project in Kabul and Kandahar Provinces to improve the livelihood of ultra-poor residents. The TUP goal is to initiate poverty reduction interventions for ultra-poor people enabling them to move out of poverty. A total of 2,500 ultra-poor beneficiaries will be identified and selected from Musai, Khaki Jabar, Qarabagh, Dehsabz , Charasyab, Dand, Spinboldak Districts and Kandahar City.

The Community Development is one of WADAN’s largest efforts. The  TUP  Program  provides  beneficiaries  with  a  package  of  inputs  over  a  two year  period,  including  the  transfer  of  productive  assets,  training,  subsistence support, and basic health care. The aim of the program is to graduate ultra poor households  out  of  safety  net  programs  to  income  earning  activities  as  well  as linking  them  with  microfinance  programs.  As a result, income within the household groups is expected to increase in addition to overall wellbeing such as health.  The  impact  of  this  investment  has  been  estimated  with  a  range  of scenarios.
