Afghanistan Airfields Economic Development Commission (AAEDC)
About AAEDC: Afghanistan Airfields Economic Development Commission (AAEDC) was established on 23rd July 2015 by the presidential decree number 43 of Afghanistan National Unity Government (NUG). The commission is responsible to facilitate and lead responsible transition of Airfields. AAEDC efficiently and economically uses the Airfields which were previously transferred to GIRoA and the Airfields which are supposed to be transitioned to GIRoA in near future. The commission is mandated to convert Airfields into Special Economic Zone (SEZ), facilitate the creation of SEZ Authority, creating efficient business environment, capacity building/technical assistance, policy analysis, reforms and development and building relations with national & international counterparts. Conversion of these Airfields into SEZ will play a significant role in attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) which will increase Gross Domestic Product (GDP), jobs creation, export promotion, infrastructure development, knowledge transfer, technology transfer and inclusive economic growth. AAEDC has formed a well-functioning Afghan Secretariat to work on day to day activities of base transfer, preparing comprehensive plans, development of SEZ Authority, SEZ laws, Financing and SEZ promotion on national and international levels.
