Asian Development Bank (ADB) has agreed to make a grant [Grant Number 0506-AFG (SF)] to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan IRoA) from ADB’s Special Funds for the purposes of the Panj Amu River Basin Sector Project as per the Grant Agreement dated 02 November 2016 between IRoA and ADB. As per a separate grant agreement [Externally Financed Grant Agreement Number 0507-AFG(EF)] signed on the same date ADB has agreed to make the proceeds of the grant form European Union (EU) available to IRoA for the purposes of cofinancing expenditures under the project. Ministry of Finance (MOF) is the executing agency (EA) for the project, Ministry of Energy and Water (MEW) and Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) are the implementing agencies supported by a project management office (PMO) for each. The project management office (PMO) is headed by a Project Director to oversee the management.
The Government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (GIRoA) has requested a grant of $26 million from ADB’s Special Funds, US$50 million cofinancing (ADB administered) from EU to help finance the project. The Government contribution in kind will be US$750,000 making the total financing amount for the project US$76.75 million.
